These are truly the lazy days of summer.
The days are just going by so slowly. It must be fitting that the only "major" sports going on happen to be the slowest moving sports: baseball, golf, tennis, bowling. If it wasn't for the speed -- and the wrecks and the cheating and the bickering -- in auto racing, summer would be a total slow-fest.
But salvation is just weeks away as pro football training camps will open up and the college kids kick off another NCAA season. It just seems like it is taking forever to get here.
Barry Bonds and his home run record chase is topic A on the diamond. But that's it. Nobody seems to care about golf unless new daddy Tiger Woods is playing. Nobody cares about tennis since Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras left the scene. Bowling isn't fun to watch unless bowlers get to set the balls on fire and roll them toward gasoline-drenched pins.
Please football. Hurry up and get here. Who cares if half the league will be suspended because of various idiotic off-the-field activities. As long as someone is cracking heads on the field, life will continue to be good.
I guess I have to be a little more patient.
